I had been on call for a few weeks before I got the call. I brought my photography gear everywhere with me just in case. Thankfully, on the night of November 27th, I brought my camera bag to a friend’s birthday party. I had a feeling I would get a call from Allison and sure enough about 20 minutes after I arrived, she called saying labor had started and I should get there in the next 30 minutes or so. When I arrived, it was clear that Allison was in active labor and starting to work hard through contractions. Her and Kevin started a pattern with each wave, Allison would rest and when a contraction started she leaned on Kevin for support. Eventually, Allison switched to the birth tub to try and ease some of the intensity of the contractions. She labored so beautifully. I love home births because there is always a felt peace and calm throughout all of labor. Allison trusted her body and leaned into Kevin and her midwives for support. Labor continued to progress and then Allison’s water broke because Dean’s head was about to be born. The midwives rushed over to Allison and within a couple contractions, Dean came flying out into the water. Joy and relief. She did it and he was finally here. They were so in love to meet their third son. He was absolutely perfect in every way.
